Among The Weeds
By Guila Manchester on Animal Rights Online

Sometimes, among the ugly weeds
A miracle will grow.
And shed a little beauty
On the lives
Of those who know.

A scruffy stub-tailed yellow cat
Abandoned; left to roam,
Returned from each day's wandering
To the shack
That once was home.

And God looked down upon the heart
Of someone living near.
And sent each day
A little food
And slowly, he grew dear.

A mother cat, her kittens dead,
Her crippled leg so sore,
Had dragged herself
And come to beg
Before an office door.

And God looked down upon the hearts
Of gentle Mary Anne
And Carol, with her lovely smile,
And fit them
In His plan.

And so, among the weeds of life,
A miracle has grown.
And two unwanted homeless cats
At last
Have found a home.
