Losing It
By John Cannon

Whenever
I think that
there is something

more important,
more urgent
for me to do

than stopping
(for just a moment)

to watch a bird
to touch a pet
to smile at a child
to say a kind word,

then I have lost it ―

lost touch
with

what really matters,

lost touch
with

my interdependence,
my connectedness

with every other
living being

on this earth,

and lost
so many

precious
opportunities

for joy.
