Cantaloupe Melon

A Cantaloupe melon is great for breakfast, lunch, dessert, or as a snack.  Below are some simple instructions for preparing and enjoying a Cantaloupe melon.

Begin by selecting a good quality Cantaloupe melon.  It is always best to get a vine-ripened Cantaloupe melon, but they will also ripen on the kitchen countertop.  When the Cantaloupe melon is ripe, the melon will develop a pleasant aroma, and the rind will yield to slight pressure. There are several varieties of Cantaloupe melons. Most of them ripen with an "orangish" tan coloration, but some retain their greenish tint. Muskmelons, a common variety sold as Cantaloupe, are a round, netted variety most often sold in supermarkets.  Since they have a tendency to get moldy quite quickly when kept at room temperature to ripen, they should be checked daily.   (Cantaloupe melon, whole)

Thoroughly wash the Cantaloupe melon and cut in half lengthwise, exposing the seeds. (Cantaloupe melon, split)

Gently scrape out and discard the seeds, and serve the melon "as is" to eat with a spoon, or...  (Cantaloupe melon, half)

Cut the Cantaloupe Melon into slices, and enjoy as finger-food. (Cantaloupe melon, cut)

The above recipe is in keeping with God's creation intent (Genesis 1:29-31):  'Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-- everything that has the breath of life in it-- I give every green plant for food." And it was so.   God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.' (NIV)  Let no animal suffer or die that we may live!
