'Letters needed re 'Deer in Westchester' meeting

From: Animal Defenders of Westchester (ADOW)
February 20, 2015

The Hudson River Audubon Society is sponsoring a 'Deer in Westchester' talk on March 8, 2015 along with the League of Women Voters, at Mercy College see PDF.

The speakers will be Dr. Mike Rubbo of Teatown Lake Reservation, Mayor Peter Swiderski of Hastings-on-Hudson, and Ms. Melissa Shandroff, science teacher at Hastings High School.   'Topics to be addressed include environmental impacts of deer overpopulation, political and practical aspects of the deer immunocontraception program in Hastings, and an experimental study of the effects of deer in Hillside Woods by Ms. Shandroff and her AP science students.' Please politely request that an animal advocate (including yourself!) be added to this lineup, which needs someone to speak for the deer:  Rubbo is responsible for needless, cruel deer slaughter at Teatown; Mayor Swidreski has avoided slaughter due to constituent pressure - which is great, but the deer need an actual advocate to educate the public; and the 'science' community is shoving the 'invasive species' theory on the public.  This program is biased by its very nature of scapegoating deer, which is being done all over. The 'fact' is people need to drive carefully; the 'fact' is people shouldn't move to a rural area - then expect to get rid of the wildlife who was here before them; the 'fact' is that the deer population has increased due to hunting:

Does deer hunting reduce car accidents?

Hunting has increased deer population, not reduced it

Hunting Isnít the Answer to Animal ĎPestsí
