PLEASE CROSS POST
Animal Defenders of Westchester has asked the Westchester Board of Legislators to create an Animal Welfare Caucus, as has been created elsewhere.
Such a caucus would address such issues as:
~~ Requiring low-cost veterinary clinics in every city;
~~ A Wildlife faction to address consideration and humane treatment for our wildlife neighbors in Westchester including wildlife refuges and impacts on wildlife and the public;
~~ Establishing pet food pantry pilots;
~~ Funding for low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and veterinary wellness care; we don't want our animal companions needlessly winding up in shelters to face an often dismal future;
~~ Strong enforcement of existing laws on backyard breeders, licensing, animal cruelty and sterilization
Please contact Westchester Legislators to request creation of an Animal Welfare Caucus; you needn't be a resident to contact them - if you are, indicate it:

In 2026 we recognize the power of the human-animal bond; its relationship to human health and the health of families and the community cannot be overstated; we also recognize animal sentience and intelligence. The human-animal bond, plus the health benefits of seeing and living with wildlife, is an important relationship that has mental, emotional, and physical benefits for both people and animals. Animals are part of the family. We can be one of the first to make meaningful progress for the most profoundly helpless beings in society.
Thank you as always for all you do! Animal Defenders of Westchester
