Foie Gras is actually a diseased 'fatty liver' product, from a goose or duck who is force fed by shoving a pipe down her throat till her liver ruptures. They live in cramped cages in often filthy isolation. The feeding pipe often cuts through their necks and creates festering wounds. It is an extremely cruelly-gotten 'cuisine' item that is being challenged and banned all over the world. Food critic James Beard stated, 'I suspect the birds secretly like being fed that way.'
