Investigate horse racing

Published in AM NEW YORK www.amny.com 5/24/06:

We are calling for a complete investigation into the terrible injury suffered by racehorse Barbaro during the Preakness. According to an AP article by Richard Rosenblatt on May 7, 2006, Barbaro "stumbled out of the gate" at the Derby; the article ended "As he watched his colt coming down the stretch, the trainer said he had one thought: 'Don't fall down.'"

This appears to indicate that they had prior knowledge that something was already wrong with this animal's leg.

Horseracing is an industry rife with scandal, animal cruelty and thievery. Forcing an animal of this size to run on spindly legs is begging for problems--indeed, by the Churchill-Downs web site stats alone, 15 horses have already suffered "slight" ankle and leg injuries in 2006 alone (and the stats are only listed to advise bettors on making astute bets!)

Coupled with continuing issues of masking injuries, drugging animals, overbred animals who wind up in filthy, heartless auctions and misappropriation of funds, horse racing needs to be re-evaluated as an antiquated horror; bottom line, don't bet on animals, whether they're whipped to run or not.
