Tuckahoe, N.Y.: To justify the carriage-horse industry, Voicer Susan Carlo states that some horses are “bred” to work and are called “work horses.” This is a term invented by humans; “bred to work” is also a human-invented term, misused to cover many types of animal exploitation.
She also states that the horses dragging carriages “look relaxed and
unafraid”; does she also see the whip in the driver’s hand and the cold
metal plate forced into the horse’s mouth? I think the horse isn’t the only
one with blinders on.
