Many of us are presently in the grip of winter's cold,
with the threat of snow and ice storms looming over us. While there is
plenty of information on how to plan for and prepare for natural
disasters, sometimes the suggestions are not suitable for vegetarians.
Registered dietitian Reed Mangels and The Vegetarian
Resource Group have produced a free, four-page booklet entitled Disaster
Planning for Vegetarians. It offers a sample menu of items that need no
refrigeration, cooking or water to prepare. Also included is a list of
items for a three-day food supply disaster kit.
To order the booklet, send a self-addressed envelope

The Awful Truth!
Michael Moore, producer of the film "Roger and Me" and longtime thorn in
the side of corporate America, will apparently be speaking up for
chickens this Wednesday evening (tonight!), according to trailers of his
cable-tv show "The Awful Truth."
Shown dressed in a chicken costume asking questions in
the lobby of a factory farm and poking around the area where the
chickens are kept in cages, he appears intent on exposing "The awful
truth" about the lives factory-farmed chickens really lead. You may want
to tune in to find out what he's up to. "The Awful Truth" airs on the
cable channel Bravo at 10:30 eastern time. Be sure to check your local
listings.
