FoL Newsletter Excerpts by Margaret Lawson (1974-1989)

1983

"I well remember how shocked I was when first I "saw the light" that the Church did not hold it up as an ideal to which to aspire. I felt that I would have been a vegetarian from my youth had it done so, and I know of others who feel the same.I was even more shocked at the way Christmas is celebrated by the slaughter of millions of turkeys and other creatures."

"And Christmas is upon us again with its heathen festival. Need I say more? I can only pray for more hearts to be touched with the tenderness and mercy of Christ at this special time. As the late Professor William Barclay said, "The world would be a more gracious place if those who claim to worship God had something more of the wideness of the mercy of God."
