A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Dairy Problems – 25 July 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

I’m glad to see that the false and misleading commercials promoting milk and dairy products as good for weight loss have been taken off the air. The only studies – out of 27 – that made this claim were three small ones funded by – you guessed it – the dairy industry! There seems to be no end to “junk science”!

Here’s something else that’s interesting: According to a new study published in the International Journal of Cancer, among 29,133 men, the ones who consumed the most dairy calcium had a 63 percent greater risk for prostate cancer.

More dairy myths: That milk drinking helps children build strong bones. The journal Pediatrics published an article showing that there is little scientific evidence of this dairy industry claim. Then there’s the 18-year investigation as part of the Nurses’ Health Study that found no evidence that milk prevents hip fractures.

As I’ve said before, if I had it to do over again, dairy products would be the first to be dropped in my journey toward becoming a vegan. Becoming vegan 20 years ago is one of the best things I’ve ever done.
