A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Hoffman Helpful Hint – 25 September 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

When cooking, have you tried sautéing in water instead of oil? If a recipe calls for sautéing vegetables in oil, we use a small amount of water instead. It’s very easy to cook this way in a wok; we’ve been doing this for many years and don’t miss the oil at all. And, of course, it is far more healthful.

In his book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. explains why oils are not “heart-healthy.” He writes: “In fact, the medical literature is filled with evidence of the harmful effects of monounsaturated oil.”

Once you try cooking this way and see how easy it is, you’ll be glad you did.
