A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Cloning – 19 January 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

The cloning controversy has been in the news lately, with proponents claiming that meat and dairy from cloned animals are safe to eat and should have no restrictions placed on their sale. Others question that approach and claim that more time is needed to study any possible negative effects.

Well, as vegans we’re glad that we don’t have to worry about such things – and neither would they if they quit eating animal-derived products. Then everyone would be better off – humans and nonhumans.

Concerning the topic of cloning, one of the e-mailed comments from a viewer of a TV news program that was aired said that they had been brought up on a farm and enjoyed meat and dairy, but that they would consider becoming vegetarian if cloning was allowed. How much simpler it would be to become vegan in the first place and not have to worry about such things.

And – have you noticed how careful the TV news media are to show cattle outdoors in fields, trying to avoid showing the harsh reality of industrialized farming?

All of these shenanigans could be avoided if everyone became vegan.
