A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Palm Sunday – 16 March 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

Today is Palm Sunday for Western Christian churches which use the Gregorian calendar to calculate the date of Easter. Because the Eastern Orthodox Christian churches use the Julian calendar, which was in use during the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, they’ll be celebrating Palm Sunday on 20 April this year. Last year was one of those times when the celebration of Easter coincided in both churches; but it doesn’t occur very often.

Perhaps we should all try to follow Jesus’ teachings concerning compassion instead of devoting so much time and energy to doctrinal issues. How we treat those described as “least among you” in the Bible is more important to God. Until “Christian” churches stop supporting and start speaking out about the diabolical cruelty of the animal agriculture industries, they are far from living up to the basic ideals and standards of Jesus.
