"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
Yesterday I wrote about the misuse of the word “dominion” by those who are hard-of-heart and who attempt to justify their cruelty toward God’s nonhuman creatures.
Today I want to quote two humans who aren’t afraid to tell the truth about our responsibility toward this planet we all share:
“As custodians of the planet it is our responsibility to deal with all
species with kindness, love, and compassion. That these animals suffer
through human cruelty is beyond understanding. Please help to stop this
madness.”
– Richard Gere
“Kindness and compassion towards all living things is a mark of a
civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human
beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture
or community of people … Only when we have become nonviolent towards all
life will we have learned to live well ourselves.”
– Cesar E. Chavez, United Farm Workers of America
