Too Great The Price
By Guila Manchester

So step right up and watch this treat,
For here comes paleface down the street.
And all those wrinkles, let them show,
For those cosmetics have to go.
They test them in a rabbit's eye.
It does much more than make him cry.
If he goes blind it isn't safe
For me to put upon my face.
And never mind if he is dead,
Just so my lips are painted red.
It's going on this very day.
The brutes with clubs have found their prey.
A baby seal just three weeks old
Will be a fur coat being sold;
The bleeding body left behind
For mother seal to mourn and mind.
The only thing they take
Is blubber out of which they make
This stuff I wear upon my face.
It isn't beauty, it's disgrace.
If I have beauty, it's inside.
I'll let the years show through with pride.
So step right up and watch this treat,
For here comes paleface down the street.
Some kinds of suffering have to be,
But not because of vanity.
