Poetry by M. Linda Steffey

I cannot for the life of me
Understand... or can I see
Why Man's heart is hard and cruel
Will someone tell him he's a Fool!

So many beasts of Sea and Sod
Are also Children of our God
For they are wise beyond our dreams
But how we kill them with our schemes!

For money, "sport", and gluttony, too
Yet never see the harm we do
The living Creatures in God's care
The beauty of the wild and rare

We tear down Mountains, scar the Land
On this our very Earth we stand
Beneath our feet we trample all
Not shed a tear when they fall!!

Oh! Wise and magic Creatures run!!
When you hear the blast of gun..
For it is Mankind having "fun"..
Beneath the Moon and under Sun!

I don't know what Mankind will do
When Earth's resources can't renew
All because Man wanted "fun"
And these his Crimes can't be undone!

The Sod is soaked with years of dying
And when it Rains it is God crying!
What Man gives out, it will return
But hopefully one day he'll learn...

Laws of the Universe apply
And Humankind can also die!
If he cuts his nose off to spite his face
He too may vanish without a trace!....
