WORLD OF SORROWS
Poetry by M. Linda Steffey

The sadness of this weary world
Brings my heart to tears
For the people who are killed
Who live their lives in fear!

For the children who are hungry
Who are beaten, left alone
For those born unwanted
For miseries unknown....

For freedom's bell which tolls
But rings unheard for many
For life's simple pleasures
For those who don't have any!!

For the elderly mistreated
The disabled called names
Six million people slaughtered
While men play evil games!

The animals caught in traps
And blasted from the air
The many species lost
More and more becoming rare!

For those whose minds are lost
But still feel with their heart
For the little child retarded
Who is doomed from the start!

For peoples of different color
Those caught to be a slave
Who died for their beliefs
Their faith kept them brave!

The ones who fight world battles
Then patted on their backs
For the killing of their brothers
In a world where love so lacks!!

How sad for all the earth
That anyone has to die!
Where people hate each other
And kill and steal and lie!!!

To the prisoner in the prison
To our last wolf on the plain
To the sadness of just living
Through the laughter and the pain...

My tears are for this sadness
They roll and streak my face
Grant us God, Thy mercy!
Thy guiding love and pure grace....
