A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Abuse of Dogs – 18 August 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

On July 19th I wrote “Michael Vick Dog Fighting Scandal.” It’s a month later and this is still a “hot topic.” Some people are surprised that the public is so upset about dog abuse. I’ve been wondering when the public is going to make the connection between the scandal of dog fighting and the on-going horrific torture of thousands of dogs in biomedical research that the government funds and that people support with their charitable donations.

I will never forget that the dogs in a university biomedical laboratory had their vocal cords destroyed so that their barking would not be heard. Imagine that! Yet, well-meaning people are complicit in cruelty to animals when they give money to those soliciting donations for this or that “cure” without first checking to see if the organization bears the Humane Charity Seal of Approval.

And if you really want to help the animals, as well as yourself, start by going vegan!
