There is a joy that rises when compassion becomes natural—when mercy is no longer something we force, but something we simply live. Veganism is never a grim discipline. It is a holy relief. It is the lightness of choosing love. It is the gladness of knowing that, as much as we are able, we are no longer directly or indirectly aiding suffering with our daily habits.
The joy of veganism is the joy of restored innocence. In a world that teaches us to look away, God invites us to look with open eyes—and then to live with clean hands. When our choices begin to match the tenderness we feel in prayer, something in us becomes more whole. Our conscience grows quieter. Our spirit becomes less conflicted. And that inner harmony makes room for joy—not a shallow happiness, but a deep, steady gladness rooted in righteousness and peace.
There is also joy in the abundance God has placed within our real food. The plant kingdom is overflowing with color, flavor, nourishment, and creativity. Every compassionate meal can become a small celebration—of provision, of beauty, of the way God feeds us without violence. Veganism invites us to delight in the simple miracle of food that blesses rather than harms.
And perhaps the sweetest joy is this: veganism helps us live closer to the heart of Jesus. The same Christ who welcomed children, touched the untouchable, and defended the vulnerable is forming that same gentleness in us. Each act of compassion—each meal, each decision, each quiet refusal to harm—becomes a way of saying, “Lord, make me like You.”
This week, ask God to restore your joy. Not the joy that ignores the suffering of the world, but the joy that refuses to be crushed by it. Let your veganism be a song of hope. Let it remind you that love is stronger than cruelty, and that the Peaceable Kingdom is not only coming—it is already breaking in through the lives of those who choose mercy. May your joy be full, and may it overflow as a witness to the goodness of God.
