A PARDON WAS GIVEN
As Moses begged for the lives of the children of Israel, he did proclaim.
Now if thou kill all the people as one man, nations will hear of such fame.
They will have heard of the fame of thee, and they shall speak.
They will proclaim in spite of all you have done, you are weak.
They will say, you could not bring your people into this land.
And so in the wilderness you killed them, with your mighty hand.
I now beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great as thou has spoken.
Let it be known to all nations, your promise to these people is not broken.
Let it be said that, the Lord is long suffering and of great mercy.
One forgiving, iniquity and transgression, and by no means, clearing the
guilty,
Visiting the iniquity of the fathers, upon the children unto the third and
fourth generation!
Moses spoke this on behalf of all the people of the congregation.
Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people, Moses also did say.
Pardon them, according to the greatness of thy mercy Moses did pray.
Forgive this people as you have done from Egypt until now, the congregation
heard.
And the Lord said to Moses, I have pardoned them according to thy word.
But as they have not hearkened to my voice, and ten times have tempted me.
Surely the land I promised to their fathers those who provoked me, shall not
see.
