A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Sweeteners

Several years ago we stopped using white granulated sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, etc. Instead, depending on the recipe, we use molasses, apple juice, dates, figs, raisins or stevia (which we use in vegetable juices and in salad dressings) for sweetening.

As you go through our recipes, you’ll see how easy it is to use healthful, nutritious sweeteners with delicious results! Our Banana Raisin Oatmeal Spice Cookies and our Fruitcake are just two of our recipes that are always very popular with everyone:

As I’ve mentioned in a previous Blog, we often have a mixed raw vegetable juice that we prepare in our Vita-Mix blender. Sometimes we use a very small amount of stevia (a little goes a long way!) in these. To give you an idea of how we use stevia, see:

Other seasonings, besides curry powder, that we like in our vegetable juices are ginger, or a combination of cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, and nutmeg. Allspice is very tasty in beet juice.
