Institutionalized Animal Cruelty – Fur: Demand for Mink

Everyone who has a compassionate heart must keep speaking out for the rights of animals, like the mink in this article, to live as God created them to live free from human exploitation.

On 14 Apr 2013 Yahoo News published a Reuters article by P.J. Huffstutter called, Furs fly as Chinese consumers drive boom in U.S. mink farming. The article states in part:

“Battered by the economic downturn and years of animal rights activism in their own backyard, American mink farmers are now in a different sort of quandary: scrambling to keep up with China’s demand for all things fur.

Driven by a hunger for high-end clothing and luxury home goods among China’s burgeoning middle class, U.S. exports of mink pelts to China jumped to a record $215.5 million last year – more than double both the value and volume shipped in 2009.”

Isn’t this exactly what we are told in 1 Timothy 6:9-10?

9. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men [and women] into ruin and destruction

10. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang.
NASB

This is exactly what is happening within the institutionalized animal cruelty of the fur industry, and those who buy their products by coveting the tortured remains of once living and feeling mink and other animals.

In our opinion the only thing that wearing fur does for a person is to show how hard and ugly their heart and soul really is, which is exactly what animal rights activism highlighted in the United States to reduce fur sales.

We believe that every truly loving, compassionate, and peacemaking child of God must continue to speak out against the institutionalized animal cruelty of the fur industry and those who covet their products. This is the only way we are going to end the suffering of the mink and other animals.
