John 9:7 Bible Commentary
and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). And so he went away and washed, and came back seeing.
By having to do this, the man had to have faith in the Lord that this would heal him. Also, the fact that the translation means sent carries with it that being sent to the pool was a blessing in itself, or perhaps that this man after bathing in its waters was sent away a changed person with a mission for God.
Also. it is an instance of the virtue of faith and obedience. This man let Jesus Christ do what he pleased, and did what he appointed him to do, and so was cured.
On a geographical note, Siloam is a pool located in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, south of the Old City. Siloam was built around the “serpent-stone”, Zoheleth, where Adonijah gave his feast in the time of Solomon.
