Tofu - Broiled with Barbeque Sauce

1 lb. Tofu, firm or extra-firm
2 tbsp. Ketchup
1 tbsp. Mustard, prepared
1 tbsp. Molasses, unsulphured
1 tbsp. Soy Sauce
1/2 tsp. Ginger, ground
Oregano, dry

Begin by opening a 1 pound package of firm or extra-firm tofu and draining off the water.  Place the tofu block on a plate and slice into slabs the thickness you desire.  We usually slice the block into 8 slabs.

Place the ketchup, mustard, molasses, soy sauce, and ginger in a bowl that is large enough to allow a slab of tofu to be placed in it, and mix well.  If the sauce is too thick, you may want to add a little water and mix again.  You want to make sure that there is just enough to coat all the slabs of tofu.

Thoroughly coat each slab of tofu with the barbeque sauce and place on an oiled broiler pan.  (We broil ours in our toaster oven.)  Sprinkle some oregano on the surface of the tofu, and broil.  Be careful not to let it burn.

Remove from the broiler and enjoy as is or in a sandwich.

The above recipe is in keeping with God's creation intent (Genesis 1:29-31):  'Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-- everything that has the breath of life in it-- I give every green plant for food." And it was so.   God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.' (NIV)  Let no animal suffer or die that we may live!  (d-17)
